The Location

The Bear Necessities Bed & Breakfast is nestled on the sides of Grotto Mountain and Mount Lady Macdonald backing onto Cougar Creek. A vast trail system lies just beyond your doorstep. Enjoy a leisurely walk, a challenging hike, or bring your mountain bike.

Situated one hour west of Calgary and only minutes from Banff National Park and Kananaskis Country, we are centrally located in one of nature's most spectacular outdoor playgrounds. Whichever outdoor activity you enjoy, from sightseeing and photography to extreme sports, we guarantee you'll find it here. There are five spectacular golf courses nearby as well as five superb mountains for downhill skiing. Canmore boasts its own Nordic Center - a world class biathlon, cross-country skiing and mountain bike facility. If you would like to try something new there are guided tours for activities such as river rafting, heli-hiking, rock climbing, horseback riding, heli-skiing, snowshoeing, sleigh rides, snowmobile trips, dog sledding and much more.

How to Find Us:

Heading west from Calgary on the Trans-Canada Highway, take the Canmore/ 1A exit # 91 on the east side of town. Turn left towards Exshaw, then take the first left onto Elk Run Blvd. (RCMP on corner.) Continue up the hill until the second Lady Macdonald Drive on the left hand side and turn left. Turn right onto Grotto Road, round the corner, and our home is on the right side. Please park in the driveway.

Heading east from Banff on the Trans-Canada Highway take the Canmore Town Center exit # 89 and turn left at the first light, crossing over the highway. Follow this road up the hill (Benchlands Trail). At the top of the hill the road forks, stay right and cross over the creek. Take your first right after the bridge, this is Lady Macdonald Drive. Turn right onto Grotto Road, round the corner, and our home is on the right side. Please park in the driveway.
